"WHERE STRANGERS BECOME FRIENDS AND FRIENDS
BECOME FAMILY"
Activities
There is more to camping than
sitting around the campfire. Happy Wanderers meet year-round, for a variety
of indoor and outdoor activities.
While camping, we keep busy hiking,
swimming and touring by bicycle, kayak and canoe. With the occasional round
of golf, site-seeing and shopping, it's easy to build an appetite.
Fortunately, Happy Wanderers have taken the art of outdoor cooking to
new levels, with our legendary pot luck dinners and hospitalities.
During the winter months, members
get together to ski, go bowling, and enjoy winter hiking. Our annual holiday
party is an opportunity to gather and exchange gifts, and enjoy the
fellowship of the holiday season.
Connecticut FCRV hosts several
state-wide activities every year. There are two Conservation Weekends, held
at Rocky Neck State Park, where we assist the Department of Environmental
Protection in preservation of the park. We camp for the weekend at no
charge, in exchange for a few hours of work. Additionally, Spring and Fall
rallies allow the entire membership to gather and participate in adult and
youth activities, entertainment, and much more.
Teens are very active in FCRV, with
the guidance of the teen directors. They get together for laser tag, go
carts, bowling, or just hanging out. The teen king and queen pageant is
held at Fall Rally, where our teens showcase their talents. The winners
represent Connecticut at the FCRV Campvention, where a national teen queen
is crowned.
Youth activities include games and
crafts, along with the SKIP program, where Smart
Kids are Informed Persons. SKIP covers such topics as fire
safety, first aid, earthquake safety, cooking skills and safe boating.
